Bladder Fibrosis
Various urinary tract diseases, such as enlarged prostate in elderly men and posterior urethral valves in boys, cause progressive bladder dysfunction and fibrosis. Even with appropriate surgical treatment, issues like reduced bladder compliance and abnormally high intravesical pressure can harm the upper urinary tract.
Our current project seeks to understand the development of bladder fibrosis in an animal model and assess the impact of potential antifibrotic interventions. We will analyze the expression of various molecular markers in patients' bladders and, based on findings from our animal studies, evaluate the effectiveness of potential treatments in a translational context.
