Sex Differences in Renal Injury

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) currently affects about 15% of the population, and it is a major cause of mortality worldwide. Sex differences are evident in many fields of nephrology, and there is evidence that CKD in females progress at a slower rate than in males. In this project, we investigate sex differences in renal (patho)physiology, and the role of sex hormones and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) in the progression of renal fibrosis, as well as in CKD-associated impaired water handling.
